Yield House Mails American Country Home Store
American Country Home Store from Yield House recently mailed its Summer/Fall 2008 catalog. Yield House, which began selling pine and wicker furniture in 1947, acquired American Country Home Store in 1992, combining the collections into one title. The cover of the book features a Bichon Frise dog relaxing on the Tavern Bed ($599 - $999) made up with Paw-Friendly Bedding ($24 - $169) designed to stand up to four-legged sleepers. Copy touts “cozy bedding,” “solid pine furniture,” “French bistro patio sets,” and “wicker porch furniture.” Inside, home furnishings for every room as well as the patio are offered. Products include the Tall Corner TV Stand ($949), the Cottage Coffee Table ($399), and the Log Porch Swing ($249). Science Illustrated Sends Charter Invitation
Science Illustrated, a new-to-the-U.S. magazine from Bonnier Corporation, recently mailed a soft charter offer. The Scandinavian-born magazine debuted in the U.S. with its January/February 2008 issue. The 6” x 9” package exclaims “Scientific Breakthrough!” in large red letters, followed by “Introducing the revolutionary magazine about science and discovery that changes everything you thought you knew about the past, present, and future.” A round window displays a red “Free Preview” involvement sticker. Inside, a letter describes the publication as a “new magazine that takes science reporting out of the dark ages and makes it the colorful, exciting, entertaining, and gratifying experience it ought to be.” A lift note insert asks “Why You?” with an explanation of the reasons why the recipient was selected for a free preview, such as “you’re the type of person Science Illustrated is written and designed for. Smart. Sophisticated. Inquisitive. Curious.” A glossy foldout features samples of articles such as “Cutting-Edge Visions of Cosmic Extremes,” “Madagascar’s Hidden Eden,” and “Evolution’s Most Effective Killer: Snake Venom.” Another insert provides a sampler of the kinds of topics covered in the publication, including prolonging life, physics, and nanotechnology. The “Charter Subscriber Reservation Card” presents the soft offer of a two-year subscription for $24 (12 issues, one free).

PriceCutter.com Touts “Free Stuff!”
Woodworking merchant PriceCutter.com recently mailed its Summer 2008 catalog offering “Free Stuff!” The 10½” x 8” book promotes enticing incentives on the cover as well as its tagline “The Woodworker’s Best Value.” The merchandise depicted includes the four premiums on payment available with orders of $99 or more. Just inside is a note from Buddy Price, founder of PriceCutter.com, explaining how the “Free Stuff!” offering is back by popular demand. Below is a detailed explanation of the incentives. Orders of $99 or more entitle the buyer to their choice of a free 3/8” Picture Hanging Keyhole Bit or a 16’ Center Point Tape Measure. With a higher purchase amount of $149+, the choices increase by two including a 4” Sliding Square or a 24” x 72” Mesh Router Mat.
